Protest continues at Burmese embassy in BangkokAbout 300 Burmese students, workers and monks staged a protest for the second consecutive day in front of the Burmese embassy in Bangkok on Friday. The protesters demand that the junta government stop using force against Buddhist monk demonstrators and release the opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi. Protesters wearing red headbands paraded placards and banners condemning the violent suppression of Buddhist monks by the military regime and sang their national anthem. About a dozen monks from Burma joined the protest Friday, even police in the Thai capital have been deployed to provide security for both the embassy and protesters. The Thai Buddhist Network led by Rosana Tositrakul also gathered at the Myanmar embassy and submitted a letter to the leader of the military junta through the Burmese embassy. The letter said Buddhists in Thailand are worried about the violence protester crackdown by the military junta and asked the military regime to be patience and to adopt peaceful means to end the turmoil. Based on Buddhism and its teachings, hurting Buddhist monks is unacceptable and violence will lead to a crisis, which will be hard to solve, she said. However, the Burma mission has no policy to accept any petition or letter, but the group can place the letter at the embassy, according to a member of the embassy staff. Ms. Rosana said the Thai Buddhist Network will perform mass prayers for peace in front of the Burmese embassy at 7 pm on Saturday. (TNA) -By Bangkok Post Agencies Sep 29, 2007
